about

This is a single by Wellington lyricist and rapper Jake Woodrow - better known as MC DRO - his first release on Untold Records.
The track - Living Proof - is paired with an official music video. It is a dulcet yet gritty debut, that tells an emphatic and well-crafted tale. The bibliographic nature gives a nod to old school hip-hop while DROs' easy control and ability to play with tempo, as well as his crafty pen skills keep things fresh and exciting.
The instruments, especially the evocative bass and drums compliment the vocal perfectly.

Living Proof (lyrics)

ma name came from ma best mate
ma cuzy
n ima roll with it right until i kick the bucky
i show i know above these other dudes
but damn pops still aint feeling what his son could do and i swear its coming true,
and thats the scheme man, to paint dreams
my pictures like van Gogh
i could flow in my late teens
thinking back this very minute,
shit i was 18
out the front of my 1st flat
on a burst creating rhymes,
off the mind,
they were coming out sublime
and right then and there
somma my pairs knew that i would shine,
that i would climb,
higher and higher
see life was like a bitch but i was doused with desire had that house lit on fire while i was spitting shit
and i was freestyling man it wernt no written tip
or intimate just into it in the zone
at ma home up in brooklyn,
sick but back when i aint know that i was crook then

rap aint a game and pain and gains not
what you think it is till you reach the end of your drop
you need to let it go, you need to let it go
like your happy when it rains but when that rain stops
you remember all the pain just praying for rain drops you need to let it flow coz it dont really matter

shit hit the fan in welli
no fam around me on the run from the Ds
who wanna see me bleeding in a cell
rolling in a benz broke as hell
till our connect from rhythm n vines gave us dope to sell
n now we doped as hell and i was selling it
and fuck you to your face is what id tell a bitch opposite of celibate fella was just breaking laws
i sold a few but still i knew that i was due in court so mundane the day of arriving at mums came on that sunday
bringing me some shame and some would say, life had taken its due course
52 weeks there i was living with two whores
51 types of disturbing em through walls
50 hella shifty Lewinskys and two balls
it was hectic id neck too many and get reckless
sex was in my face all the time i aint respect chicks or respected either and plenty nights i pondered
bee in my bonnet bangin ive got 5 on it
instrumental blunted just stunned at how life changed when i found that, jotting it down ignite flames coz

rap aint a game and pain and gains not
what you think it is till you reach the end of your drop
you need to let it go, you need to let it go
like your happy when it rains but when that rain stops
you remember all the pain just praying for rain drops you need to let it flow
coz it dont really matter
burning pages look

burning pages through nights now but typing it and turning days in just like owls but liking it cyphers i decyphred i could write n i was aite unlike my belt tightning using more
came to realise i wasnt moving forward
city hit me i was literally phat in two sense
and every two faced fag had they 2cents
back in welli feeling alive
but ma image diminished didnt it so i was
gettn d-dished some lies
feeling finished inside and i was hating it
and lost the level of girls that i was mating with shorty fuckn state of it horny cunts were layin it and tainting it behind closed doors like a whore while i was dating it
and i was shaking it off until one night i leaned
forward and put some weight in it
all got fucked up i fucked it i was drunk n
destructive on some straight outta luck tip
wu tang i wasnt nothing to fuck with
copd the back of the truck, the paddy wagon
and for my sons ears right now aint daddy braggin
i was barely handling on the road
rattling outa control
slackin indulging and lackin in soul
gapping the flow no rapping tappin a ghost
back n forthing o v e r that yo
i met a girl and found a track thats why im rapping to boast
and its a fact now looking backwards i aint trapped with the most because

rap aint a game and pain and gains not
what you think it is till you reach the end of your drop
you need to let it go, you need to let it go
like your happy when it rains but when that rain stops
you remember all the pain just praying for rain drops you need to let it flow
look, burning burning pages look, burning burning pages
